Both are legitimate choices and the right one depends on your situation, not on which is “better”. Go to Samsung’s authorised service centre if your phone is in warranty, the fault looks like a manufacturing defect, or you want manufacturer parts on record. An independent shop makes sense once the phone is out of warranty, the damage is accidental, or you want to compare the cost before committing.
This page sets out the questions worth asking on both sides, so you can decide with real numbers rather than assumptions. We are an independent shop, so read this knowing that, and note where we tell you to go elsewhere.
When the authorised service centre is the right call
When an independent shop makes sense
Neither route is the villain. The mistake is choosing without asking both, then discovering the difference after the phone is already open.
The five things worth comparing
Get an answer to each of these from both sides before you decide. We have filled in ours; ask the service centre for theirs and write the date next to it, because these change.
| Question | At Chamo | At the service centre |
|---|---|---|
| What is the exact price for my model? | Inner screen from RM850, cover from RM350, quoted per model before work starts | Ask, and note the date |
| How long will it take? | Depends on model and part availability, we tell you when we see the phone | Ask |
| What grade of part is fitted? | Genuine-grade | Ask |
| Does my remaining warranty change? | Work outside the manufacturer network can affect what they cover afterwards | Ask |
| What happens to my data? | Ask us and we will tell you exactly what the job requires | Ask |
What to ask when you call the service centre
Most people call and ask only “how much”. These four get you a far more useful answer:
Being straight about our limits
An honest comparison has to include what we cannot do:
Our foldable prices
| Repair | From | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| Inner (folding) screen | RM850 | RM2,550 |
| Cover (outer) screen | RM350 | RM850 |
Every Flip and Fold model we handle is listed on the Samsung foldable repair price page. Parts are genuine-grade. Current as at 18 August 2026. Diagnosis is free, and you get the figure for your model before anything is opened.
Common questions
It depends entirely on who does it. Foldable inner panels need someone who works on them regularly. Ask who will do the job and what they have handled before, at any shop, including ours.
Work done outside the manufacturer network can affect what they will cover afterwards. If the phone is still in warranty and the fault might be a defect, speak to Samsung first.
Different parts channels, different overheads and different processes. The right comparison is price against wait against what is fitted, not price alone.
At Chamo, yes. Diagnosis is free and you are under no obligation to proceed.
Check Samsung Malaysia’s official support site for current locations and hours. We would rather you get that from the source than from us.
Chamo has repaired phones in Taman Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan since 2014. Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold work is handled by Zaki. For the difference between parts grades, see original versus genuine-grade screen. Full service details are on our Z Flip and Z Fold repair page.
Want a second figure to compare? Bring the phone in for a free diagnosis. We will tell you exactly what failed and what it costs, and if the service centre is the better route for your situation, we will say that too.
