Repair wins when the screen cost is less than what the phone is worth to you working. On an older Flip, an inner screen at RM1,080–1,180 against a trade-in offer of a few hundred ringgit usually makes repair the cheaper path. On a broken Fold with a RM1,550–2,550 panel, the sums get much closer, and sometimes trading in is the right call.
A broken foldable puts you in a position an ordinary phone never does. The screen is not a RM200 part, it can be a third of what the phone cost new. So the question stops being “how do I fix this” and becomes “is fixing this the best use of the money”.

The gap between a cover screen and an inner screen is enormous, RM380 against RM1,080 on a Flip 3. Plenty of people assume the worst and start pricing a new phone when the actual repair is a few hundred ringgit. Close the phone: if the damage is visible while it is shut, it is the cheaper one.
Step 2: what is the phone actually worth?
This is the number people guess at, and guessing is where the decision goes wrong. Get a real figure before you decide:
Step 3: the only calculation that matters
Take what a working unit of your model sells for. Subtract the repair cost. If what is left is more than your broken-phone trade-in offer, repairing is the better deal, even if you sell it afterwards.
Worked through with your own figures it takes about a minute. An example of the shape it usually takes on an older Flip: if a working unit fetches around RM1,600, the inner screen is RM1,080, and the best broken-device offer is RM350, then repairing leaves you RM520 ahead, and you keep a working phone instead of starting again.

What happens to the phone after a screen replacement
A replaced inner panel restores the display, not the whole device. The hinge keeps whatever wear it already had, the battery keeps its existing health, and the crease will still be a crease. What you get back is a working phone of its age, which is usually exactly what people want, and worth being clear about before you pay.
