Does Samsung’s Warranty Cover a Cracked Inner Screen? (Malaysia, 2026)

By August 16, 2026August 22nd, 2026No Comments
Short answer

A manufacturer warranty covers manufacturing defects. A cracked or pressure-damaged inner screen is accidental damage, and accidental damage is normally chargeable, even inside the warranty period. That is why most people who crack a Z Flip or Z Fold inner display end up paying, and why the real question is not “is it covered?” but “what will it cost?”

If you are reading this, one of two things has probably happened. Either you have just been told your Galaxy foldable is not covered, or you are about to walk into a service centre and want to know what to expect. Either way, the outcome usually comes down to one distinction, and it is worth understanding before you hand the phone over to anyone.

Defect or damage: the only line that matters

Every manufacturer warranty draws the same basic line, and Samsung is no different.

Manufacturing defect, usually coveredThe panel failed on its own, without being dropped, pressed, or exposed to liquid. Nothing hit it. Nothing was trapped in the fold. It simply stopped working the way it should.
Accidental damage, usually chargeableA drop, an impact, pressure from something caught in the hinge, liquid ingress, or a crack of any kind. This is the category almost all broken foldable screens fall into.

The difficulty with foldables specifically is that the two can look identical from the outside. A Z Flip inner panel that develops a line along the crease may be a genuine defect, or it may be the result of something small getting trapped when the phone was closed weeks earlier. Only inspection tells you which, and the person inspecting it decides who pays.

Before you assume you have to pay

Check your own warranty status first. If your phone is still within its warranty period and the panel failed with no impact, no pressure and no liquid, you should raise it with Samsung before paying anyone, including us. You should not be charged for something you are entitled to have repaired free.

Why foldables get refused more often than ordinary phones

The inner panel is soft

Unlike the toughened glass on a conventional phone, the folding display is a flexible panel with a plastic-layered surface. It marks and dents far more easily. Damage that a normal screen would shrug off can leave a permanent dead patch on a foldable.

Anything trapped inside becomes a press

When a Flip or Fold closes on a grain of sand, a key or a coin, the phone applies the force itself. This is one of the most common causes of inner-screen failure, and it almost never leaves an external crack, which is exactly why the owner is often certain nothing happened to it.

The crease concentrates stress

The panel bends in the same place every time it opens. Faults appear there first. Our guide on black lines on foldable screens covers what that failure looks like in practice.

The factory film is not a screen protector

The film on the inner display is part of the assembly. Peeling it off yourself can damage the panel underneath, and self-inflicted damage is not covered by anyone. We wrote about foldable screen film peeling separately, because it is the single most preventable way people turn a cosmetic annoyance into a four-figure repair.

The customers who walk into Chamo with a foldable are rarely shopping around. They have already been quoted, already been refused, and are simply deciding where to spend the money.

Refused. What are the actual options?

Pay the service centreThe official route. You get the manufacturer’s own parts and process. Expect to pay the full published rate, and expect the phone to be away for a period they will quote you.
Pay an independent shopUsually less, usually faster, and you deal with the person doing the work. Parts are genuine-grade rather than manufacturer-boxed.
Repair only the cover screenIf the inner panel is fine and only the outer display is damaged, this is a far smaller job. Many people do not realise these are separate repairs.
Do nothing for nowSometimes the honest answer, particularly on older models where the repair approaches the phone’s remaining value. We will tell you if that is your situation.

Common questions

Does Samsung’s warranty cover a cracked inner screen?

A crack is accidental damage, not a manufacturing defect, so it is normally chargeable even within the warranty period. Warranty terms vary by market and by model, so check the terms that came with your device.

My screen broke without me dropping it. Is that covered?

It may be, if the panel genuinely failed on its own. But pressure damage from something trapped in the fold produces the same symptoms and is not covered. An inspection is what settles it.

Will an independent repair void my remaining warranty?

Work done outside the manufacturer’s network can affect what they will cover afterwards. If your phone is still in warranty and the fault might be a defect, speak to Samsung first.

Is a third-party foldable screen repair safe?

It depends entirely on who does it. Foldable inner panels need a technician who works on them regularly. At Chamo the Flip and Fold work is handled by Zaki, who specialises in them.

How much is a Samsung foldable screen replacement in Malaysia?

At Chamo, inner screens start from RM850 and cover screens from RM350, depending on the model.
