Inner screen or cover screen? This is the first thing to get right
Almost every foldable repair question comes down to this one distinction, and it's the single biggest reason two quotes can look wildly different.
If you want to work it out yourself before coming in, we set out a three-question check in inner screen versus cover screen.
Inner screen (the folding display)
The large flexible screen inside. This is the expensive one. It's a flexible OLED panel bonded to the hinge assembly, with a factory-applied protective layer on top. If this cracks, shows black patches, dead lines, or stops responding to touch, it's an inner screen job.
Cover screen (the outside display)
The smaller screen on the outside of a Z Flip, or the front screen on a Z Fold. It's a conventional rigid panel, much cheaper and faster to replace than the inner display.

"My inner screen is black / not working / has a line across it"
A black inner screen doesn't always mean the panel is dead. On foldables it can also be a loosened display connector at the hinge, a damaged flex cable, or a failing digitiser layer. Those are very different repairs at very different prices. This is exactly why we diagnose first, free, before quoting.

Each generation of foldable fails in its own way. We repair all of them:
Galaxy Z Flip 3The oldest Flip still in heavy use. Most are now well out of warranty. Common: inner screen failure along the crease, hinge wear, weak battery.
Galaxy Z Flip 4Common: cracked inner display, cover screen damage from drops, charging port wear, battery health decline.
Galaxy Z Flip 5Larger cover screen means more cover-screen damage. Also inner screen protector peeling and hinge complaints.

Common foldable problems we fix
Phone won't open all the way / won't close flat
One of the most common foldable complaints. Usually the hinge mechanism: grit and dust work into the hinge, or the mechanism is bent after a drop. Left alone, a gritty hinge can push against the inner display from behind and crack it, so this is worth fixing before it becomes an inner screen job. We clean, service or replace the hinge assembly.
Inner screen protector peeling, lifting or bubbling
Foldables ship with a protective layer bonded onto the inner display at the factory. It's not a normal screen protector, and it's not meant to be pulled off. Peeling at the edges or bubbles along the crease is common and expected as it ages.
Please do not peel it off yourself
Removing it by hand very often takes part of the display layer with it, turning a small, cheap protector replacement into a full inner screen replacement. If yours is lifting, bring it in. Replacing the protector is one of the quickest and cheapest jobs we do.
Crease cracks and bubbles
A visible crease on a foldable is normal, every foldable has one, and it's not a fault. What is not normal is a crack along the crease, bubbles forming in the fold line, or the crease becoming sharp to the touch. Those are signs of display or hinge failure. We'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at.
Battery drains fast
Foldables carry two smaller battery cells instead of one large one, and they age. If your Flip or Fold no longer lasts the day, a battery renewal restores it, usually the cheapest way to make an older foldable feel new again.
Charging port not working
Deep-clean, reflow, or full port replacement. Often it's just lint compacted in the port, we check that first, and we'll tell you if that's all it is.

How much does a Z Flip or Z Fold repair cost?

Samsung warranty probably won't cover a cracked inner screen
This is where most foldable owners get a nasty surprise. Manufacturer warranties generally cover manufacturing defects, not accidental damage. A screen you cracked by dropping it, sitting on it, or catching grit in the hinge is usually treated as accidental damage, and usually falls outside the standard warranty.
That leaves you paying out of pocket either way, so the real question becomes where you get it done, how long you wait for it, and what you pay.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the inner screen and the cover screen?
The inner screen is the large flexible display inside that folds. The cover screen is the smaller rigid one outside. The inner screen is significantly more expensive to replace.
Why is my Z Flip inner screen black or not working?
It can be a cracked flexible panel, but it can also be a loose display connector at the hinge or a damaged flex cable, which are different repairs at different prices. We diagnose free before quoting.
Why won't my Z Flip open all the way?
Usually the hinge: grit inside the mechanism, or a bent hinge after a drop. Worth fixing early, a failing hinge can crack the inner display from behind.
Is the crease on my foldable normal?
Yes. Every foldable has a crease and it is not a fault. Cracks along the crease, bubbles in the fold line, or a sharp-feeling crease are not normal, bring it in.
My inner screen protector is peeling. Can I just pull it off?
Please don't. It is bonded at the factory and pulling it off often lifts part of the display layer with it, turning a cheap protector replacement into a full screen replacement. We replace it properly.
Does Samsung's warranty cover a cracked inner screen?
Generally no, warranties typically cover manufacturing defects, not accidental damage. Check your own warranty terms. If you are covered for a genuine defect, we'll tell you to use the authorised centre.
How long does a foldable repair take?
Most repairs are same-day. Inner screen replacements can take longer depending on parts availability, we tell you upfront.
Is it worth repairing an older Z Fold 3 or Z Flip 3?
Often yes, a battery renewal or hinge service on a well-kept older foldable costs a fraction of a new one. But if the economics don't make sense, we'll say so rather than sell you a repair.
